Fall brings on the most anticipated time of the year. Our foliage is second to none when color pallets emerge from over a dozen species of trees. Taking the scenic chairlift to the top of the mountain and then hiking over to Bald Knob is a must. During winter months, get outside and experience Canaan Valley Ski Area's 47 ski slopes. With an average of 150 inches of snow a year enthusiasts enjoy a true winter experience while in Canaan Valley. A 1,200 foot tubing park keeps the fun coming for all.

Outdoor Recreation

Hiking

There are 18 miles of various hiking trails to choose from. Most trails are less than two miles but many are interconnected for extra miles. Access to the Canaan Mountain Backcountry and Blackwater Falls State Park are located near the main Lodge. Take the scenic chairlift for access to Bald Knob trail at the top of the ski resort.

Biking

Canaan Valley has always been known for it's Mountain Biking. Hit trails within Canaan Valley State Park or venture into the Canaan back-country via the Allegheny Trail. Take a cruise along the parks miles of paved roads for subtle riding on two wheels. Cruiser bikes are available for rent through the recreation center.

Sporting Clays

Take your best shot at clay pigeons on the vast range located at Canaan Valley Resort Ski Area. Archery has also been recently added to round out a solid day on the range. Anyone 18 years old+ can make a reservation or simply walk-in to schedule a session. Also kids aged 12-17 can take part in this worthwhile activity if accompanied by an adult.

Wildlife Watching

Whether you want enjoy the diverse species of birds flying around in Canaan Valley, or you just want to tap into your inner nature enthusiast to enjoy the breathtaking surroundings, this is the activity for you! Search for over 100 species of birds in the boreal habitat. Whitetail Deer populate the grounds year round and are more photogenic than you would think.

Pool and Spa

Go for a refreshing summer swim at Canaan Valley Resort Park’s outdoor pool while taking in scenic mountain views . Plenty of room to swim laps and have fun in the heated Olympic sized pool. When the weather turns cold or unfavorable the indoor pool, work out area, and spa are open year round.

Golf

Head out on the Geoffrey Cornish designed 18 hole golf course situated among open views and rolling terrain only found in Canaan Valley. Canaan Valley Golf Course features a driving range, practice green, pro shop and club house. On the lighter side of things, the recreation center offers miniature golf so the whole family can join in on the fun.

Climbing Wall and Eurobungy

Feeling up for the ultimate physical test against your fellow risk takers at Canaan Valley Resort? Strap in and challenge yourself as you scale up the rock climbing wall. If you’re in the mood to fly high and flip every which way, experience the Eurobungy, which hooks you up to a harness as you jump sky high on a trampoline.

Sight Seeing

Want to take in some amazing views? Go for a scenic autumn chairlift ride at Canaan Valley Resort. The views of the valley, surrounding mountains and fall foliage are breathtaking, especially from an elevation of 4,280 feet. The bird’s eye views from the chairlift make the already-stunning sights truly over-the-top beautiful. Ride the lift back down or hike the two miles to basecamp. Either way, you’ll be immersed in some of the most explosive fall colors the east has to offer.

Events

Four seasons of events are found at Canaan Valley Resort State Park and at the ski area in the winter. Guided hikes around the park and between Blackwater Falls State Park are very popular. Every Fourth of July weekend is Wind Fest and the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra plays for free as part of the holiday weekend. Whether it be annual events or weekly organized activities, Canaan Valley Resort has something for all ages to participate in.

Canaan Valley Resort offers 47 slopes and trails to uniquely fit skiers and snowboarders of all abilities ranging from beginner to intermediate and then to the experts. Take to the snow blanketed countryside as you travel along the Allegheny Mountain’s 30 kilometers of marked and un-groomed trails on your skis or snowshoes. Spend one or five hours on the trails as you get away from the liveliness of the resort and experience the vast, spectacular lands of West Virginia to enjoy some peace and quiet. Lessons are available with experienced trainers to teach you the basics of skiing alongside the countryside.

Tubing & Sledding

Grab your tubes and bring out the entire family to zoom down the 1,200 foot hill which is the longest multi-lane tube park in the Mid-Atlantic. Save your energy for the adventurous ride down, and travel up the hill on the magic carpet lift to save you from the long trek up. Warm up during or after your ride by the fireplace and grab a warm treat at the concession stand to relax after all of the fun.
