Hiking

There are 18 miles of various hiking trails to choose from. Most trails are less than two miles, but many are interconnected. Many trails are linked with the million-acre Monongahela National Forest.

RIDGETOP/VALLEY FLOOR

  • Monarch Trail: The ¼ mile Monarch Trail following along open fields is easy
    and accessible for hiking, XC skiing, and snowshoeing.
  • Railroad Grade Trail: This 2.5 mile Railroad Grade Trail follows the base of Canaan
    Mountain and passes through forests and streams varies from easy to difficult terrain for hiking, XC skiing, and snowshoeing.
  • Bald Knob Trail: Bald Knob Trail stands as one of the most difficult trails,
    reaching an elevation of 4,308 feet. This 2.5 mile trail through meadows is open for hiking, XC skiing, and snowshoeing.
  • Blackwater River Trail: Looking for an easier trail? The Blackwater River Trail is an
    easy 1 mile loop trail that is accessible for hiking, XC skiing, and snowshoeing.

Walk or Ride

  • Back Hollow Trail: The 3 mile Back Hallows Trail varies from easy to difficult
    terrain that can be traveled on foot or by bicycle. This trail is open for hiking, XC skiing, snowshoeing, and biking.
  • Club Run Trail: The 1 mile looped Club Run Trail stands as a more difficult trail that passes through forests and follows alongside swamp wetlands. This trail is open for hiking, XC skiing, snowshoeing, and biking.
  • Ridge Top Trail: The very short and easy 1/8 mile Ridge Top Trail is open for hiking, XC skiing, snowshoeing, and biking.
  • Middle Ridge Trail: The 2.5 mile looped Middle Ridge Trail stands as a more difficult trail that features varied terrains. This trail is open for hiking, XC skiing, snowshoeing, and biking.

Wildlife & Wetlands

  • Deer Run Trail: This 1.5 mile Deer Run Trail is an easy trail that includes
    an observation platform open to overlook the meadow. The trail is open for hiking, XC skiing, and snowshoeing.
  • Abe Run Trail: The ¾ miles Abe Run Trail is an easy trail that is open for hiking, XC skiing, and snowshoeing.
  • Mill Run Trail: This easy, 1 mile looped Mill Run Trail offers benching to overlook the wet meadow. This trail is open for hiking, XC skiing, and snowshoeing.

Hunting

Take your best shot at clay pigeons on the vast and beautiful range located at Canaan Valley Resort. Take 25 shots per session to put your aim to the test. Anyone 18 years old+ can make a reservation or simply walk-in to schedule a session appointment. Also kids aged 12-17 can take part in this worthwhile activity if accompanied by an adult.

Take to the snow blanketed countryside as you travel along the Allegheny Mountain’s 30 kilometers of marked and un-groomed trails on your skis or snowshoes. Spend one or five hours on the trails as you get away from the liveliness of the resort and experience the vast, spectacular lands of West Virginia to enjoy some peace and quiet. Lessons are available with experienced trainers to teach you the basics of skiing alongside the countryside.

Tubing & Sledding

Grab your tubes and bring out the entire family to zoom down the 1,200 foot hill which is the longest multi-lane tube park in the Mid-Atlantic. Save your energy for the adventurous ride down, and travel up the hill on the magic carpet lift to save you from the long trek up.
