2010 Calendar of Events
Canaan Valley, Blackwater Falls, Tucker County
Winter, spring, summer, fall ... This is a place where people gather to welcome the arrival of every season, our heritage and culture, and the bounty that we enjoy. We rejoice in our shared experiences with grand parades, fireworks, chili cook-offs, mountain bike and ski races, arts and music festivals, golf tourneys, great food, and good friends ... everybody is invited!
Labor Day Weekend Celebration
September 3-6
There will be live entertainment at 9pm on September 4th and 5th in the Fireside Grill and Timbers Pub. Scenic chairlift will be operational September 4th and 5th 10am until 5pm. Mountain Bike Center and Timberline Stables open daily. There is a full menu in Timberlines Fireside Grill daily. No cover charge for the live entertainment.
Art Events
Saturday, Sept 4th
THE STUDIO GALLERY at 358 William Ave in Davis will host an afternoon OPEN HOUSE on Sat. Sept 4th from 1-6pm celebrating its July opening. Come by and refresh yourself with great snacks and great art.
In the evening, from 7-10pm THE WHITE ROOM art gallery will host their ANNIVERSARY PARTY at 14 Front St. in Thomas. Come and join the festivities. Excessively fancy dress encouraged but not required for this party.
Autumn Color Exploration - Mountain Trail Rides
September 10-12
High altitude mountain trail rides over this portion of West Virginias Allegheny Mountains. Horseback enthusiasts ride to the Eastern Continental divide over thousands of acres and mountain terrain. Expect flaming colors of autumn to arrive early at these higher elevations (about 4,000 feet). Timberline stables will be open daily or bring your own horses. There is ample room to park horse trailers on the resort property at the base of the mountain. For riders on Friday and Saturday, Timberline will sponsor live western and country music on the deck of the main lodge in full view of Herz Mountain. Square dancing and dance instruction is scheduled both Friday and Saturday evenings. Barbeque ribs with all the fixings will be served on the deck or inside Timbers Pub. Guests are encouraged to wear western style dress. Pack lunches can be provided upon request. Timberlines scenic 1,000 foot vertical chairlift ride to the 4,263 foot elevation will be operational Saturday and Sunday.
Canaan Culinary University
Sept. 18
Learn to cook like a chef during this themed cooking class. Create desserts such as chocolate mousse, English Trifle, Black Forest Cake, Fruit Tart, Chocolate Truffles, Poached Pears, Banana Foster, Crepe Suzettes, Ice Cream, Strawberries dipped in Chocolate, and learn the secrets of white chocolate. Participants will receive a copy of all recipes. Class runs from 11 am to 2pm. Click here for more details.
Revenge of the Rattlesnake - WVMBA Ultra #5 Championship
Sept. 19
Enjoy Tucker County on two wheels! The 27th annual Revenge of the Rattlesnake Race is possibly the longest running annual mountain bike race in the galaxy, and it's the 4th and final race of the WVMBA Ultra Series. After the race, wash your bike, hang out, eat and drink right behind the bike shop! Click here for more info.
Leaf Peepers Festival
Sept. 24 - 26th
Returning favorites include: Oktoberfest, Appalachian craft & food fair, inflatable rides, Silent Auction, Photo Contest, Duck Race and more. Details to come.
Run For It
Sept. 25 - 11 a.m.
A 2k walk (1.2 mile) & 5k (3.1 mile) walk and USATF competitive run hosted by Tucker Community Foundation in conjunction with Leaf Peepers Festival. Race starts 11:00 AM at the Davis Fire Hall on Rt. 32 and winds up, down and around town. Geared for all ages and abilities; speed is not required. Wheelchairs, strollers, costumes and well behaved, leashed dogs welcome. Cash awards, entry fees and sponsor donations support a variety of community causes, school activities, civic organizations and charities throughout the region. Sign up now! Barn Dance
The 7th Annual Aurora Barn Dance in Aurora, West Virginia will take place at the Brookside Farm next to Cathedral State Park on Sunday October 3rd from 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Born Old will be playing Old Time Music and The Aurora Celtic Group will play Appalachian-Irish Music. Entry fee for food and music: $12 for Adult. Children under 10 years old free. October Celebration Weekend
October 8-10
This weekend features German food prepared by Chef Peter and music at the timberline Fireside Grill and timbers Pub. A full menu is also available. Live entertainment from 9 pm until 1 am Saturday night. There is no cover charge.
